Details in skin regeneration

Skin regeneration is mainly concentrated in the epidermis. It consists of 5 layers of skin cells in order from the deepest layer to the skin surface, namely stratum basale, stratum spinosum, stratum granulosum, stratum lucidium and stratum corneum. The deepest and most distinctive layer of the epidermis is stratum basale because it is the center of the “mother cell” is able to divide and produce all “daughter cells”. The cells in the stratum basale will divide and move to the upper layer, creating dead cells in thestratum corneum. This process is ongoing, called skin regeneration or “the cycle of cells”.

In fact, in an adult in the age of 20 or 30, the skin regeneration will take place in about 28 days. In particular, it takes 14 days for the cells in the stratum basale divide and move to the stratum corneum and the remaining 14 days for developing death cells and shedding of skin cells. The higher the age is, the slower the skin regeneration will be. According to the research of dermatologists, the skin regeneration takes only 14 days in neonates, 28 days in the age of 20-30, and about 100days in the age of 60. Therefore, the higher the age is, the older the skin will be.
